Is Therapy Right for Me? A Gentle Guide to Getting Started
Is Therapy at Willow Tree Collective Right for You?
Answering Common Questions About Our Specialties, Approach, and Offerings
If you’ve landed here, welcome! There’s likely something calling you to make a change, even if you're not quite sure what that change is yet. Maybe you're feeling a little worn down, like something in your life just isn’t quite working the way it used to, whether that’s your job, your relationships, your sense of purpose, or how you see yourself.
At Willow Tree Collective, we’re here to walk alongside you during those messy, in-between seasons, the ones that feel tender, uncertain, or like something big is shifting. We work with adults navigating burnout, major life changes, climate anxiety, identity questions, and the journey of discovering or embracing your neurodivergence, whether that’s late-diagnosed ADHD, autism, or simply realizing your brain works a little differently.
Many people we work with are exploring who they are, what they need, and how they want to show up in this messy world, especially within LGBTQ+ communities.
If you’re curious about whether we might be a good fit, this post covers some of the questions we hear most often. Whether you found us through google, a friend, or even ChatGPT, we’re glad you’re here!
Do you work with people navigating burnout and life transitions?
Yes, this is one of the most common reasons clients reach out to us.
You might be feeling exhausted by the pace of your life, questioning a once-stable career path, adjusting to a new role (like becoming a parent), or realizing that a part of your identity needs more space to grow. Burnout and transition often show up together, and they can feel confusing, lonely, and overwhelming.
We help you slow down, reconnect to what matters, and reimagine how you want to move forward even when the next step isn’t totally clear.
Can I talk about climate anxiety or eco-grief in therapy?
Absolutely. Many of our clients bring concerns about the climate crisis into therapy, whether it's fear, grief, numbness, guilt, or a sense of powerlessness. These are valid, real emotional responses to a real-world issue.
At Willow Tree Collective, we don’t pathologize these feelings. Instead, we offer a place to sit with them, understand their roots, and explore how you want to live in alignment with your values, even in an uncertain world.
Some clients find that this work connects them more deeply to nature, purpose, and community. Others simply need space to grieve and feel less alone in their concern. Either way, you’re welcome here.
Do you offer outdoor therapy or walk-and-talk sessions?
Yes! Integrating nature into our work is foundational at Willow Tree Collective.
Some clients find that being outside in movement and nature helps them feel more grounded, open, and regulated during sessions. Walk-and-talk therapy can reduce the intensity of face-to-face conversations and support a different kind of flow and connection.
It’s especially helpful for clients who experience anxiety, restlessness, have ADHD, or simply prefer a more embodied, sensory-rich space for reflection. Outdoor sessions take place at Pease Park and along the Shoal Creek trail.
We’ll talk through logistics and safety during your consultation and first sessions to determine if this format is a good fit.
I think I might have ADHD. Can I bring that into therapy?
Yes, many people come to therapy wondering if they might be experiencing ADHD, especially later in life. Maybe you’ve always struggled with focus, organization, or time management, but found ways to cope until recently. Or perhaps a big life change like parenthood, career shifts, or burnout has made it harder to manage things the way you used to.
Whether you’ve received a formal diagnosis, are self-diagnosing, or just want a place to explore what’s going on, we’re here for it! Therapy can help you better understand how your brain works, reduce shame, and build systems that support your nervous system and your real life, not someone else’s idea of productivity.
We also know that ADHD often overlaps with other experiences, like anxiety, sensory sensitivity, perfectionism, or being a highly creative or deeply feeling person. We’ll work with you to sort through the noise and connect to what actually helps you.
Is your practice LGBTQ+ affirming?
Yes. Our therapists are LGBTQ+ affirming and trauma-informed, and we approach therapy from a deeply inclusive and supportive lens. We understand the unique stressors that queer, trans, and nonbinary folks face from internalized shame and marginalization to identity exploration and chosen family dynamics.
No matter what state or federal policies say, including those here in Texas we stand firmly with you. Our commitment to your safety, dignity, and well-being doesn’t waver. You don’t have to educate us on the basics. And if you’re still figuring out who you are or what you need, we’ll meet you there with care, curiosity, and respect.
I think I have religious trauma. Is this a safe space to explore that?
It is. We work with many clients who are unpacking the lasting impacts of rigid, shame-based, or exclusionary religious environments. Whether you’re deconstructing your faith, rebuilding a new spiritual identity, or just trying to make peace with the past, therapy can be a place to process all of that without judgment.
Religious trauma often goes unnamed, but its effects on self-worth, boundaries, relationships, sexuality, and embodiment can run deep. We approach this work with compassion and cultural humility.
Do I need to be in crisis to start therapy?
Not at all. If something in your life feels off, even if you can’t name it, that’s reason enough to reach out.
Therapy doesn’t require a crisis. It can definitely be the reason, and we welcome you if that’s your experience. It can also be a place to reflect, explore, create boundaries, reconnect with your body, grieve what’s been lost, and imagine what’s next. You’re allowed to want more clarity, peace, or support, just because.
